Rural EFL Teacher’s Challenges in Improving Students’ Higher Order Thinking Skills

This research aims to explore the rural EFL teacher’s challenges in improving students’ higher order thinking skills. The participant of this was one English teacher who teach Junior High School Gaung district. By using qualitative approach, researchers collected data employs non-participant observation teaching and learning process, interviewed teacher, took documents by collecting lesson plan. result showed that higher-order skills area are knowledge ability for HOTS is still low, passive students, low proficiency, limitation school facility, lack sources. Based on finding above, recommends give a facility or train teachers about how based demand 2013 Curriculum. Besides that, development not easy because all those challenges. So, headmaster education authorities should find solution make students can reach expectation Higher Order Thinking curriculum.
